The Warrior Kids
A recent survey of 6 to 12 year olds shows young people as the new generation of eco-warriors. They are aware of climate change and determined to do something about it.
83% of children surveyed say they regularly do things to save the planet; 8 out of 10 recycle and most do things like turning off the tap when brushing their teeth, picking up litter and trying to reduce the use of plastic bags.
The survey, commissioned by Random House Children's Books, surveyed over 1,000 children and marks the publication of Kate Thompson's new climate change book, The White Horse Trick.
The survey also showed that young people are worried about the future. “It's appalling that we have arrived at a situation where more than 80% of our children are anxious about their future on the planet.”Says Kate Thompson
When asked what aspect of climate change worries them most; 36% of children said animal species dying; 22% said rising sea levels; others said drought, disappearing rainforests and famine.

The Valleys - Heart of the Nation
The Valleys are being championed as the "Heart and Soul of Wales" as part of the Welsh Assembly's three-year marketing campaign to raise the profile of the South Wales valleys and help improve the local economy. For the first time, the beauty and attractions of the valleys region will be a key focus of promotions to local people and visitors.
The initiative includes Blaenau Gwent, Torfaen, Merthyr Tydfil, Caerphilly, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Bridgend, Swansea Valley, Neath Port Talbot Valleys and the Eastern Valleys of Carmarthenshire.
The campaign highlights research that shows that many view the valleys as the "heart and soul of Wales, reflecting the warmth of valleys people, strong sense of community and the area's unique industrial past, turning rural Wales into the world's first industrialised nation".
People are being asked to take part by saying what makes them proud of the area by texting the campaign or visiting the website. What do you think?
